Hello everyone. I'm from the US and am relatively new to the cycling scene. I bought a real bottom of the line road bike to see how I'd like cycling before buying something really expensive and am now ready to consider more expensive options in bikes. However, I'm really more into riding paved trails than being on the road, proper, because US drivers are all insane. As a side note, I was once trying to cross a street, and a lady was literally driving down the sidewalk to avoid a construction sight.
Anyway, there are more unpaved trails than paved trails around here, so I'm pretty uncertain what kind of bike to be researching. And I'm also torn because I really enjoy going fast. So, I was wondering if y'all had suggestions about which bikes to be looking at. I'm hoping to spend less than $1000. I'm a hobbyist, not a racer.
a road bike is limited to paved roads, so if you intend to ride on gravel you need a mountain bike, they are two different sports in fact, with a road bike you can travel long distances and interact with other cyclists on the road, on a MTB you can enjoy more the scenery and cycle in the wilderness where people ride together but don't form pacelines like in road cycling,

You might want to consider a cyclocross bike. It's geometry and fit will be nearly the same as a road bike, but a cyclocross bike allows the use of much wider tires, as well as tires designed for use with conditions you might find on an unpaved bike path. Cyclocross bikes can also regular ol' road tires, too, should you want to venture a lot more onto the tarmac. What is your price range?
Matter of fact I do. Several trustworthy stores. I've also done business with bikesdirect.com a while ago, though I'm not sure the bikes they sell are that well known. Anyway, bike stores around here offer lots of brands, so I'll limit this to a discussion of cyclocross bikes.
