Anyone have opinions or recommendations on trainers? I really like the the Kurt Kinetic Rock n' Roll, but the price tag is a bit steep.

What are you looking for in a trainer? If you just want basic resistance to work up a sweat and raise your HR, most inexpensive units will work just fine. I have a 2nd hand old-school cycleops magnetic unit, a basic traveltrac fluid unit and some inexpensive rollers. Last winter I spent most of my home trainer time on the rollers.
I have been tempted to cobble together a homebrew E-motion roller setup, maybe this winter.
