I travel on business throughout Asia and Europe and and often enjoy riding in various countries. I noticed that Americans tend to were helmets more frequently than riders in Asia and Europe. This is my unscientific observation, but I travel enough to be reasonably confident that it is representative of habits in Hungry, Poland, Germany, Italy U.K., Switzerland, and France. (Scandinavian riders seem use helmets at a high rate.) In China, Japan, Korea, India, and Indonesia i see the fewest helmets, but assume some of that is a result of the cost relative to local income.
Question:
(1) Are there any stats comparing head injury rates and severity of injuries among cyclists in different countries?
(2) DO you always use a helmet? Why or why not?
I'm just curious.
