Bike NickName

I've never given a bicycle a name, but I did name a Suzuki TL1000R that I road raced. I called her Jezebel: she road like a pasty white trailer-park tramp with homemade tattoos that smoked Pall Mall unfiltereds: a real combat [censored], bucking, screaming, kicking, and biting like a rabid badger, beatin' the [censored] out of you and giving you the time of your life. Alas, Jezebel won in the end 'cuz the last time she jumped on me, she broke my lower right leg in 14 places.

My first "adult" bike is a Giant Sedona that weighs about as much as a Volkswagen. I got hit by an 18-wheeler while riding it, and once the Jaws of Life got the truck driver out of the semi and we saw he was OK, I rode home. I call it "Tha Hoss."

Anyway, after commuting on that for a few yrs, I picked up a nice Diamondback road bike. I hopped on it and pushed the pedal down, and the bike shot out from under me and finally stopped 2 blocks down. Since then, that bike has been called "Lightnen"

I think Tha Hoss is going to that great bicycle graveyard in the sky (aka craigslist/eBay) and I'm going to upgrade my road bike and turn Lightnen into my grocery getter/commuter.

Other bikes in the past have just had shortened names from their model designation, ex.: "Revo" for "Revolution".

My NOS Kona Coiler has been dubbed "DEAD SEXAY", mostly cuz it is, but also because it hauls around a fat b*st*rd.

My 93 Sedona ATX that I picked up for free and fixed through 12 yrs of racing and everything duty is known as "Sid" (coincidentally has a Rock shox Sid fork 😉 ) . She has been through 18k miles + (5 computers that died). I had a tube replaced in the rear due to a crash flattening it, a disc tab mounted, repainted a few times. Short of getting stolen I don't think it's going to leave the fleet, just has that feel. Performance has not always been perfect, but I have had a few times where she went ghost shifty in races but they were always favorable shifts for whatever reason. Even with the bent tube I still got home and didn't know until I got back. Dependable.

Recently I finally found a second(just in case) one that I converted to CX style for commuting duty. Until noted it is "Sid-2". Never came up with names for the other ones.
