I have about $2200 for a new road bike. So far LBS have recommended Specialized Roubaix Apex and Tarmac. Another Shop says Ridley Orion 1102b or a BH speedrome. I want a bike to do 30+ miles each ride and longer rides on weekends, but also want a bike that when I want to accelerate and chop some climbs its quick to respond. Your thoughts cycling world.

ask for a Specialized with Race Geometry, for your budget you get pretty close to top level components, you are just in the limit, from there upwards bikes can cost up to 4000 usd.

I'd say if you had good flexibility and are comfortable in the drops for extended periods of time go for the "team" (race) geometry. Shortening up the headtube on the Roubaix is one thing, but the Tarmac starts pretty agressive. If you can put your palms (or even fists) on the floor w/legs straight go for it, if you can olny just touch your toes for a few secs I'd go with the standard geo, the Roubaix however has a pretty tall head tube to start so maybe the team geo isn't inline with the Tarmac team geo.

Sorry guys, not sure what happened, I tried to post and the forum screen took on a half page look to it, I hit the reply, next think I know a bunch of postings of the same posts. Now the page is still screwed up because I can't find the edit button to delete the extra posts.

Simple: buy the bike that fits the best, feels the best when you ride it, looks best to you, and best fits your budget.
