Apologies for starting a whole new thread just for my training program but I figured it might help someone else.
I've had five months off training of any kind due to a bad injury, just started again 3 weeks ago. I am 6'6 and weigh 140kg. Previously I have toured (2000km around Canada last summer), but never competed, so I am not looking to get race fit just yet but I want to head in that direction. The most pressing goal is to get down to about 105kg (10% body fat) this year.
My program specific goals:
To train hard!
To lose ~2kg per week.
Lay a good aerobic base for a summer of long distance rides.
To achieve 42km in an hour on the indoor bike (so this is specific to the gym equipment I use, but essentially the goal is to increase my functional 1 hour threshold by around 10% by April).
My weekly schedule:
Monday: 2 hours 158bpm steady state indoor bike (LifeFitness 95C)
Tuesday: I dunno really...
Wednesday: 1 hour interval training, 6 x 4 minutes @ 280 watts, 175bpm, 2 minutes in between intervals.
Thursday: Weights.
Friday: Rest
Saturday: +/-100km on the road, some moderate hills, here is the course that I repeat four or five times http://www.richmondparklondon.co.uk/images/road_profile.gif
Got a new Garmin Edge 500 to make this side of things more exciting.
Sunday: Rest.
What do you guys think? Any idea what I can pencil in on Tuesdays? Perhaps a more intense rowing session to mix things up and strengthen the core? I am interested in weight loss and performance gain, and they both weigh about equally in my list of priorities. I want to lay a strong base for the best summer of riding yet, without overcooking it.
3 weeks ago 5km indoors took me 11 minutes, now it takes around 8, and I have lost ~7kg. I'd like to keep the progress going within a more formal training framework. Any advice much appreciated. Feel free to throw the entire program out the window if you think something else would better fit the goal of using the rest of winter to get fit and drop some pounds.
