A few years ago when I was doing the dating thing I ran into the grocery store for rubbers and a
bottle of wine. The checker looked at me and it was obvious she was trying to keep from laughing.
I said one will lead to needing the other. I was right.

When I was a teenager, I worked in a drug store. We were open until 10pm, every day. I was working
one Sat night.....about 5 til 10pm (this was the time before 24 hour supermarkets and drug stores,
btw. We were pretty much the only store in town open), this guy runs in the exit door...."Sorry! I
just need a couple things", he yelled breathlessly. I was on the register, about to shut it down for
the night.
I shrugged and waited for him.
About 3 minutes later, he raced to my register with his purchases:
A 2 lb Whitman's Sampler A bouquet of not-so-fresh-anymore flowers A 12-pack of Trojans And an extra-
large bottle of Tylenol
I was about 17 at the time, with my date waiting impatiently in the car outside, watching the
proceedings. You know where my mind was!!!!
I smiled, rang up his purchase, took his money, placed his items in a brown paper bag (as was the
style back in 1980) and sweetly said "thank you. have a nice night!" and he just looked at me,
smiled, winked and said "thanks, I plan to!"
