I think theres a bit of detail missing from your survey.
I use batteries, not b/c I like them but b/c they're least of evils. The type of light I got needs more power than a dyno can provide. Solar charge would be great, if it could keep up with the demand. If I were to switch over to high power LED, maybe a dyno would be enough. Or maybe a full/dipped solution? I don't need full power throughout the commute, maybe I could run a dyno with a battery backup. Dyno to supply running lights, and a trickle charge to a battery. Then have the battery to supply the lamp when running on full intensity.I leave my lights on the bike, but I'm lucky enough to have secure storage at both ends. Behind locked doors at home, behind a locked gate and CCTV coverage at work. If I had to leave the bike at a public place, I'd want both light and battery pack to snap off easily - or to have a fairly tamper proof attachment to the bike.
Something I'd really like to see is a rear light powered by parasitic power. It'd be real slick if you could stuff a seat post with piezo crystals, and then use the power of compression to power, say the rear light.
