Hi all. Can someone please advise me on a potential purchase? I am very new to bicycles and may be driving 1 hour to purchase this today for my fiance -- if it is worth the asking price.
It looks to be in great condition, but from some google searches, I found that it only went for $289 brand new (bikepedia.comBikeSpecs.aspxOpen ↗). $65 depreciation in 11 years? I have a fairly entry level Trek hybrid that I purchased new a couple years ago for nearly $600, so I'm a bit concerned at the initial price of this bike and also the fact that their asking price is only $65 less than the original price.
Do bikes hold their value this well? Is this worthwhile or do I need to keep looking for a better deal?
Bikes lose value faster than automobiles. This is a horrible deal and the bike is a very low end bike. It might look good but only the three main tubes of the frame are Chrome Moly. The others are hi-tensile steel so it is going to be a fairly heavy bike. As you said, it is 11 years old. You have to wonder how much use and care it received in the last 11 years. From the photos and the info off Bikepedia, and if I were in the market for a cheap bike, I would offer her $50 and not go over $70.
