  1. New here...

I have a Cannondale Hybrid with 700 x 38 tires which need to be replaced. I would like to get into a road bike but will not be doing that until next season. My local bike shop said that I could go as small as 700 x 28. My question...

Will I see a significant difference in speed? For example: I currently average 16 mph over 20 miles. Any guesses as to my average if I go from 38s to 28s? (obviously, this is not a scientifc question...)

    Thanks for any insights.

  2. I'm just guessing, but I think that you might see a 1 mph increase for the same effort. Not a big difference really. I'm only basing this on my own experience with an MTB that I used as more of a cruiser bike and did a similar down sizing of the tire, so this is not from a scientific study or anything.
