  1. Hello Forum, My name is John. I'm 15 (physically fit) and had a couple questions about cycling, but first I guess I should let you know about my background with the sport. I have been riding bikes for as long as I can remember (keep in mind these were mountain bikes) Now I have been watching The Tour de France for many years and a thought struck me recently about whether I could branch off into road racing and go anywhere with it, not suggesting i'll be riding up Luz Ardiden anytime soon but you probably understand. Anyways, feel free to leave a comment or voice your opinion it would be much appreciated. Thanks - John

Also: Is 15 too old to strive for such a goal?

15 is about perfect for getting into road cycling and racing and definitely not too late.

Find a local club or racing team that you can ride with by asking around at local bike shops or googling the bicycle racing association in your state for links.

Basically, get a road bike, ride a lot and ride with more experienced racers to learn pack riding and racing skills and then get out to local races to start getting experience.

Hard to say how far you can take it, but Greg Lemond entered his first bike race (the 1976 San Francisco Grand Prix) at the age of 15. No one knew that he'd go on to win the world championships or the Tour de France three times...

    Good luck,
    -Dave

  3. Thank you for your input Dave, It is much appreciated.

  4. That kind of inspires me aswell since im just starting and Im only 16
