  1. I was in the LBS the other day because I was getting a new crank arm that cannondale had recalled and when I got home I noticed that there were scratches around where the repair rack was rubbing against the frame (it's a cannondale CAAD 9 5). The bike is brand new (less than a month old) so I took the bike back to the shop. They put the bike on the repair rack and the scratches lined up perfectly where it was touching. The scratches are on both sides of the seatstays and about an inch or so long and about a centimeter wide. Pretty significant damage. They said they could touch it up with some paint, but the paint did not match the exact color of my bike. Should I expect the shop to offer more in terms of damages when it was clearly their fault? And what is the proper repair?

  2. The minimum I would settle for was the bike to be touched up with cannondale paint matched to the original. I would try to negotiate for all I could get.
Of course you could pull a pee wee herman on the way out and innocently knock over a row of bikes.

  3. i would complain and then choose a different LBS to take your business with, if possible,

  4. If they damaged it, then they should fix it to your satisfaction....regardless of the cost to them.

BTW, if their repair stand damaged your bike, then it's probably damaged others.

  5. If it's brand new and the LBS farked up and it's fixing things to your satisfaction - get Cannondale involved.

If you still don't get satisfaction - the Better Business Bureau is your next point of call.

  6. Yeah it is brand new. Only been out on it maybe 5 times. I contacted cannondale and they said they would have a guy call me back with how to best repair it. So far, the LBS has agreed to fix it according to what cannondale comes back with. Thanks for the input everybody! Hopefully the fix won't be too bad.

  7. if it is a brand new bike than the LBS should choke on a new frame for you and take the old frame off your hands .( frame exchange ) . I'm sure they will fight you on it but it is the right thing to do . I dont know what kind of relationship you have with them ? lets face it - this could make a difference on how you approach the issue ( good business relationship and maybe they would be more willing to lean towards that avenue , not so good relationship and they would not be so willing to go the xtra mile for you .hell raising could be in order . of course that is the last thing you want to do . if you settle for a paint job - you might as well take it to a 1 hour paint and body. it will never be like it once was . sorry to here of such tragedy and good luck .

  8. I was going to see if a frame swap would be possible. I bought the bike from the same LBS and have good relations with the people there. I hinted at maybe a frame swap when I was in there, but they didn't offer one. The thing is, it is a 2010 Cannondale, and this was the last frame they had in my size, so a frame swap would have to be a 2011 model and I'm not exactly sure they would go for that. I'm still waiting on Cannondale to call back with their recommendations. Has anyone had to deal with a similar situation?

  9. An unfortunate situation for everyone.

I would wait to see what the Cannondale people say. If it's only cosmetic and a touch up will pretty much hide it then it's no big deal really. After you ride the bike for a while it will get other scratches anyways.

  10. maybe a frame swap upgrade into a 2011 would be be possible - expect to pay a difference , but they should make it a minimal difference ( they should not be profiting on this exchange ). if you have good relations with them, than I am sure they will profit from you in the future .

  11. They need to fix it to your satisfaction.
Not a nice place to be in though.
Having said that you paid good money for it, they should ensure that you are satisfied. They were more than happy to take your hard earned cash the first time around!

    Good Luck.

  12. Cannondale came back and said basically nothing can be done other than touch up paint. They said sanding, and spray paint is an option but needs to be done by a professional. Also, they informed me that the Cannondale blue is not available in touch up paint, which seemed odd to me. So, I was back at square one. I decided to go to hobby lobby and pick up an assortment of blue colors. I mixed and matched these blues until I came up with what I thought looked like a very close match, and just did the work myself. The blue is almost a perfect match, and you really have to look hard to notice. Since I spent the time and money to fix it myself I'm going to see if the LBS would be willing to throw in some extra gear for the trouble. We shall see.

  13. Nail polish is a good touch up paint. Comes in nifty little bottles with a good brush.
