Welcome, Juan. We would be interested in knowing about the cycling in Spain, both casual and racing. What kind of riding do you do? What bike to you have? I imagine that Spain is more bike-friendly than the US, but details are always interesting. Steve

Hi Steve!

Spain is a kind of paradise to ride, both mountain and road. In the size of one of your states we have all kind of terrain; high mountain at pyrenees, rivers, desert at almería, snow in may ski stations on all over the territory etc etc. Here there ir so much love to cycling, and here they are some great cahmpions of all times like miguel indurain or alberto contador.

I'm amateur rider, but some times i ride a challenge but not for win, only for enjoy.

I have an all-mountain bike, lapierre zesty 214 '10 for practice enduro or ride in any condition, and for road and training I have an orbea aspin.

Yes, Spain is a good place with a good weather and very differents ambients to ride; from high mountain at pyrenees or desert at almería, everything is possible. here there is much enthusiam for cycling. Some champions of elite cycling are from here like miguel indurain or alberto contador.

But for extreme biking, freeride etc I think USA is the spearhead. I only have visited NYC, philadelphia & WashingtonDC, but i'm sure that the rest of USA is a natural paradise to ride....

I think the pyrenees ( en.wikipedia.orgPyreneesOpen ↗ ) are the best mountains for riding.
You can see great videos of this place at the blog of ian baquerin ( ianbaquerin.comianbaquerin.comOpen ↗ ).

But also have other great mountains all over the country. Yo can also see photos or videos of them in my blog ( juanraxc.blogspot.comjuanraxc.blogspot.comOpen ↗ ).
Spain is fully of contrasts, from volvano islands like tenerife to deserte in alemria or dese forests at asturias.

For road cycling you can do any stage of the 'vuelta ciclista a españa' . We have also here the higher road of europe...

Juan, I'm one of the two Steves who commented on your post. I live near Washington DC and ride road. The riding is mixed here; there are a lot of road riders and a lot of good places to ride, both on regular roads and on paved bike paths. However, there is also a lot of traffic. So you have to pick when and where you ride rather carefully. I'm just getting back into riding after a break of about 5 years. I'm still very slow and out of shape. Well, I'll always be slow, but hopefully I'll be in better shape starting next Spring. I currently ride a Performance titanium road bike. After I install my new crankset, I'll take some pictures and post them in the picture thread of the Road forum here. Take Care, Steve_A
