  1. Hello all. New user to this forum. I ride hardtail MTB on trails on Vancouver Island, and commute to work on my Devinchi hybrid. My question is about trainers. I borrowed a Giant trainer. It has a shifter to add resistance to the wheel. I am finding that this trainer is wearing out my tire quite fast. There is little bits of rubber coming off. I backed the wheel off as much as I could, and its hard to tell if that has made it any better. Any ideas?

  2. Buy a cheap tire and use that.

There are also trainer specific tires you can buy - do a web search.

  3. The trainer specific tires have a very hard rubber compound, they last a lot longer than a traditional tire. They also seem to "feel" more road-like my trainer, possibly because they have better traction on the trainer's surface.

These tyres might only be available as a road tyre? That's what I'd use for lots of trainer use too. I ride rollers if I have to.

  5. Tacx makes a Mountain Bike sized (26x1.25) trainer tire.
