  1. Hello everybody, I've been interesting in cycling for a good two years now after I got into the tour de france 2 years back and now love watching cycling.

I'm fourteen so I obviously can't afford an expert race bike but I came across a type of bike in a magazine of my brothers and I now cant remember what its called it only had one gear (There called fixed or fixer or something like that) and it said you can use a mountain bike frame starting out. So I'm now looking at purchasing some rigid forks and road tyres and fixing up this bike so it can be a type of racer I guess for some road cycling to keep fit.

Does this sound okay to you?
And soon hopefully ill purchase some drop down handlebars.

    Many thanks
    Steve

  2. Unless you already have all the parts, your suggestion seems expensive to me. At 14, the cheapest option would be purchasing a used bike. With your parents guidance, the local classifieds or craigslist are viable options for finding used bikes as long as you know what to look for. I suggest taking a few weeks to gain some cycling knowledge regarding bike quality and proper bike fit, then look for a used bike. Feel free to check out the Bike Buying Advice section of this forum.

  3. Hmm I suppose it would seem a lot though I can get some forks for £12 second hand and road tires for about £15 so I think that's not to bad to be honest though I will look into what you said.

    Many thanks
    Steve

  4. I'm thinking of keeping the suspension on, purely down to the fact I went out on it today and its nackered and it does move in and out with my weight its very stiff so just for some gentle road cycling for fitness ill get some drop down handlebars and some road tyres.

    Cheers guys
    Steve
