I think it's normal to hit a wall at one or several spots along the way. When your motivation sags,
or you've gone to one too many events where you couldn't control the food that was offered, or you
ate something that started a binge, or the weather changed and so did your overall mood, or you got
the flu, or you received bad news, or... Any of these things and more can result in losing your
focus. Others on this newsgroup have called it the SWITCH.
What can you do? First of all, let yourself off the hook and acknowledge that life and being human
is like that. If you messed up, forgive yourself, chalk it up to experience, and move on. Don't
dwell on it. Second, give thought to how much you want this. Wanting to be thin is not necessarily
the same thing as wanting to lose weight. See if you can figure out what you're really wanting for
your life right now. Maybe losing weight really isn't IT. If losing weight is what you want, to what
lengths are you willing to go? Sometimes you have to dig deep and ask the hard questions and face
the hard answers. Maybe there's something else going on that's conflicting with your weight loss.
I've certainly had to face some of my demons, loud voices that screamed at me every time I lost a lb
at WI, that I was a fool for thinking I could do this. And why did I keep trying when failure was
the inevitable end? Dealing with those voices was hard work, and I posted more than once about my
fear of giving in to them.
WW Online has a section called Tools for Living with several categories of ideas and activities to
help a person find or regain motivation and focus. A couple months ago, when I hit a bit of a stall
and my own interest in continuing slowed down, I used these tools, which seemed silly and
simplistic, and they really helped me turn my thinking around.
Good luck going forward, Carolina. Keep posting and leaning on the strength of the group until
you've regained your footing.
