CPU Face Plate

If the CPU lacks the 2.4 markings it will work with any wired PT hub, but it doesn't include the newer 2.4 HR receiver and won't work with coded HR straps. The wired hub signal doesn't care about the 2.4 upgrade it's the HR signal that differs between pre-2.4 and 2.4 (wired) systems. I've used both 2.4 wired and older non-2.4 CPUs with PT Pro and PT SL hubs and they both work fine for power, speed, cadence, etc. Either CPU should work fine with the current wired PT Comp hub as well as it's really the just the older wired SL hub with a new name.

Will the yellow wireless CPU lacking the 2.4 markings work on a older wired PT hub or do you have to keep wireless/wireless and wired/wired

wired to wired, wireless to wireless unless you also want to wipe out the wireless firmware and flash the somewhat older wired firmware onto your CPU but then it will no longer support wireless hubs. And just to keep it confusing, all wireless versions of the CPU actually have to coded 2.4 HR receiver regardless of the face plate markings while wired CPUs may or may not have the coded 2.4 HR receiver depending on the vintage.

But unless you inherited a wireless CPU and only own wired hubs and are willing to convert the wireless CPU to become a wired unit it still comes down to wired CPUs go with wired hubs and wireless to wireless.
