  1. It's been a while since I've bought clothes that actually "fit." I usually go for the bigger the
better....does it cover my rolls and my butt? I hope some of you understand! Tonight the meeting
leader asked if I noticed my loss (almost 10 lbs.) in my clothes yet, but I don't....I wear mostly
elastic waist pants!!! How will I know when I can start wearing smaller sizes? Please don't make fun
of me....I really don't know what size I am!!

  2. When I inquired about having a suit (men's) altered, I was told they might be able to reasonably get
it down a size or two and when I mentioned 60 pounds she said that was about 3-4 sizes. But I would
imagine it is totally dependent on the style, manfacturerer and from what I have heard of women's
sizes, based on anything but consistency.

  3. I don't think you ever have to worry here, about being made fun of. We've all been there, been
through the same things. When I started ww I had no idea what size I wore either ... I purchased
22's, 24's, sometimes 20's ... wore mostly the elastic waist pants as they were more comfortable and
forgiving. And yes, I was very good at hiding behind my clothing (the bigger the better!).

Each of us notices the weight loss at different stages. Some do notice it immediately, others have
said even after 25 pounds they haven't noticed much of a loss. You'll know when you need smaller
clothing, trust me. I noticed that I had to pull the elastic waisted pants up higher and higher.
They still fit ok, but the waist had to be rolled over (or pulled up to my chest!). That was a
good indication for me that it was time to get out and look for some *cheap* interim clothing. I
also noted that my shirts and pants became longer as the belly and bottom decided to take up less
    space. <g>

If I remember from a prior post, you are in your second week of ww? 10 pounds is a fantastic loss so
far and I am thrilled for you! Some of it will be water weight though. Give it some more time and as
the fat loss continues, you will begin to notice the change in how your current clothing fits.

  4. A lot depends on your height. If somebody who is 5'2" loses 20#s it's a lot more in dress size than
somebody who is 5'11" (like me). When I first started WW I was wearing 18's and could barely
breathe. I am a stay-at-home mom so I would wear elastic waist stuff around the house, squeeze into
jeans before going somewhere then take them off immediately after returning. It took 30#s for me to
get into a 16, but then only 20#s to get into a 14 and only 10#s to comfortably wear a 12.

Also, different companies size their clothes differently...WAY differently! I worked at Macy's in
college. The more expensive brands make their sizes bigger (their 8 is larger than an 8 from
Wal*Mart). They call it the vanity factor. If somebody was shopping for a pair of jeans and could
wear a smaller size in a different brand, the person would buy that brand no matter how much more it
cost. I look at the middle of the road (I shop at Kohl's), BUT I do own (and wear) a pair of size 10
Hilfiger jeans. Do I think I'm a size 10? No, because all my other clothes are 12's and I don't
think spending $80 on jeans will make me think I'm smaller. I'll get there in time.

    Cecelia

  5. Please don't worry! Go into a store and shop if you can. I did that tons, although I did not
actually BUY anything until recently. At my height 5'8", every 20 pounds was a size in the beginning
(while I was over 200) then under 200 it got to where it was more like each 10 pounds was a size.

When your bra slips up because the band no longer fits the chest wall, go buy some new ones... When
yout trousers fall down, it's time for new ones... when you think you can camp in your T-shirt with
three small children, get something smaller...

It's inches that matter, not the size on the label. I make stuff, and buy some clothes, and the
patterns I use say they are a much bigger size than the labels in the bought things. If things are
not so loose they look daft to YOU, keep wearing them!

The thing is that a lot of women wear things a bit too small because they don't want to see the
bigger labels, so when they lose a size or two, they really notice it. Some women notice it sooner
than others. I recently made a new dresses for myself, using a size 18 pattern: last time I used
that pattern, I cut it out a size 22. I had to lose 28 lbs before I noticed a significant
difference, then all at once I needed new bras and a new posh frock! The rest of my clothes can just
stay baggy for now, as I still have a lot more to lose! I work at home, so I can be as scruffy as I
like unless I have a client visiting!

  8. I went through all of my clothes and tried them all on, what fit I put into
largest to smallest in the closet. I chose two outfits that were snug,
like, you can get this on but don't wear it out. I wore the first four
outfits until the shoulder seams were down on my arms, I did this until
recently where I now have clothes I bought eons ago that actually have
zippers and buttons. Nobody here will make fun of you here, we all care,

  9. I have only lost about 30lb so far but have lost lots of inches thanks to Curve. It has only been
recently that I felt that I needed to go buy some smaller clothes. My closet has plenty of 1X and 2X
shirts that I can wear. The 2X look way too big on me and the 1X are just slightly too big. As for
pants, the 22/24 ones that I started out in are way too big to wear to work. Some of the 1X's are
now getting baggy but it depends on the brand. I would wait until you have lost another 10lbs and
firmed up a bit due to the loss before buying anything too expensive. Most of these larger clothes
of mine come from Kmart & Walmart. I do have some nice dressier clothes in 1X from Kohl's but I
found them on their clearance rack. They also are the style that you wear over another shirt so if
they are too big it is okay. Otherwise I am waiting until I lose more weight and inches to buy some
    "real" clothes for work.

  10. I think it depends on your height. I figure on about 20 pounds a size for my height (5'9" tall)
Someone shorter may lose less and go down a size. It also depends on exercise. This time around,
I've exercised a LOT and am fitting into smaller sized clothes than I used to at this weight in the
    past. (about an extra size.)

  11. Very well said, Kate! You made me think back to *when* I actually started replacing some of my
clothes. Like you, I work from home so do have the freedom to wander around in whatever I desire.
Doesn't matter if they're baggy or frumpy looking. The very first new things I bought myself turned
out to be when I managed to get down to a size 14 ... so was actually several sizes down before I
felt I *needed* things that fit better (I started somewhere around size 22/24). Even then I only
purchased bare necessities, knowing that I still wanted to continue downward - so why put out a ton
of money on items I was only going to get rid of. NOW I'm looking more carefully at items and
buying better quality (although the closet is still bare). I'm where I want to be and planning on
    staying here.

  13. I also shop at Kohl's but can't really gear how the sizes run there since they carry so many
different brands. I've found that even within the same brands, different styles will fit
differently. I normally can't wear Lee jeans - they are cut bigger in the legs, smaller in the
waist. If I find a pair to fit me in the waist, they look like clown pants. BUT ... I can wear their
lower rise jeans with no problems at all. Yesterday I tried on several pairs of jeans while at
Kohl's, found I comfortably fit into a size 6 in all of them. I also tried on a pair of jeans at K-
mart, size 8 - they were too big but didn't carry anything smaller. I wonder if the size
differential evens out somewhere? Then again, I don't *really* think I'm a size 6 either. I wore a
size 7 when I got married 22 years ago, was about 10 pounds lighter than I currently am. Hmmmm,
maybe I'm wrong and really am into 6's? I'm soooooooooooo confused, am thinking way too much. LOL!

    We've

    Quoted message said:

    all

    Quoted message said:

been there, been through the same things. When I started ww I had no

    idea

    Quoted message said:

    what

    Quoted message said:

    size I wore either ... I purchased 22's, 24's, sometimes 20's ... wore

    mostly the

    Quoted message said:

elastic waist pants as they were more comfortable and forgiving. And

    yes,

    Quoted message said:

    I was

    Quoted message said:

very good at hiding behind my clothing (the bigger the better!).

Each of us notices the weight loss at different stages. Some do notice

    it

    Quoted message said:
    Quoted message said:

immediately, others have said even after 25 pounds they haven't noticed

    much of a

    Quoted message said:

loss. You'll know when you need smaller clothing, trust me. I noticed

    that I

    Quoted message said:

had to pull the elastic waisted pants up higher and higher. They still

    fit ok,

    Quoted message said:

but the waist had to be rolled over (or pulled up to my chest!). That

    was

    Quoted message said:

    a good

    Quoted message said:

indication for me that it was time to get out and look for some *cheap*

    interim

    Quoted message said:

clothing. I also noted that my shirts and pants became longer as the

    belly and

    Quoted message said:

bottom decided to take up less space. <g>

If I remember from a prior post, you are in your second week of ww? 10

    pounds is

    Quoted message said:

a fantastic loss so far and I am thrilled for you! Some of it will be

    water

    Quoted message said:

weight though. Give it some more time and as the fat loss continues,

    you

    Quoted message said:

    will

    Quoted message said:

begin to notice the change in how your current clothing fits.
