Don't forget though that Shimano has an excellent technical resource on their website - hints, tips as well as the full pdf set of all documentation for everything they put out over the last 10 years. Campag has something similar but it's not as user friendly. SRAM... don't know about them.

Good point, everything is available online, but when I'm in the garage trying to replace my pedals and never remember what side to turn the wrench, I like a quick reference in my pocket !

It worth it, if you need it. Depends what type of bike person you are and if you like doing the repair yourself. It contains a lot of stuff and a good list of problems and solutions.Pictures are very nice and well detailled. Very useful.

Thanks for the info, I will definately check it out! I use my iPhone on my bikes when I ride for music and as a progress recorder, I use an app called cyclemeter; it seems to work alright!

I use GPS MotionX App on my iphone 4. I really like it - tons of features but best part it is easy on the battery. Start and then put the phone to sleep and let it work. It does not start and stop when you do - but it gives you exact mapping and climbing info in addition to all the standard GPS info.
I use with a new iphone cradle which makes it really easy to use. The cradle fits the iphone 4 really well plus it has an elastic strap to hold it in.

I use the MotionX GPS as well with my iPhone 4. You CAN set it to auto-pause, so that it starts and stops when you do (obviously after a brief delay once the GPS determines that you are not moving). I have a cradle for it mounted on my old-school Aero bars. I haven't tested the battery life yet, but my old iPhone 3G would use 70% of the battery in 2 hours, so I rigged up a way to use a phone charger with a 14.4V cordless drill battery tucked in my seat pack. After nearly 9 hours without recharging the cordless drill battery, my phone still showed 100% charge. One of the best features is that I can share a map of my ride via e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, etc. It creates a link to a Google map with the route ridden overlaid. It will also tag photos in the location you took them. Very cool--it's one of the very few apps I've bought. There is a free version, too, but it's not as feature-rich, of course.
