I am in the process of purchasing a MB and am between a Aspect 50 from Scott (Sale $400) and either the Specialized Hardrock Disck ($470) or Specialized Hardrock Sport Disc 29 - $610.00. Any thoughts on the bikes or brands????
I am an avid athlete but a beginner at MB. Thanks
Here are the websites that have the information for each. I am 5'7" tall and plan n riding trails and around campus. Even though I am female, it was suggested I get a Male (M) 17" bike. I have not rode any of the bikes. Thanks for your help.
if you are gonna commute (into campus or city) you might want to add a rack + panniers in the back to carry your stuff. Not all frames have that option so you need to ask beforehand. You can also ride mountain trails with the empty (no panniers on it) rack, so you just install it once then forget about it. At least that way has work for me fine.
I think it's really important for you to go to a shop and get properly fitted for the bikes you are considering. Also ride them as much as the shop will let you. How each fits and feels to you is the most important thing.
Both the Scott and Specialized bikes will make excellent bikes for what you want as long as you get fit to the proper size and are comfortable.

Good Luck, Scott
Thanks! I was fit for both bikes but have only rode the Specialized Hard Rock entry level. I am going to ride the Scott tomorrow. As far as the hardrock disc or the Scott based on their specs and $$, what do you think? That is, consdering I like how they both ride. Thanks!!!
First, I just noticed you linked to the Specialized Hardrock Sport Disc-29 and the other two bikes are 26" wheeled bikes so I'm assuming you mean the Sport Disc not Sport Disc-29.
Looking at all the components I'd say they are all pretty equal except the Scott bikes Suntour fork is 100mm while the Specialized bikes are 80mm forks. Not really a big difference. But all in all the Scott bike is a bit cheaper with more fork travel.
If the Scott fits you well and you like the way it rides, take the money you save and maybe put it towards a new helmet, rack and panniers or whatever else you may need.

Cheers and happy riding, Scott
Thanks so much!! I plan to be an owner of one or the other by tomorrow night!!!
Just looking through the new software under admin. it appears we mods may have the ability to ban members.
Is this accurate?
It looks to me like we've gained that power under the new platform, I was able to directly zap an old spammer's account during the 'test drive'.
One important note - internal links - those that refer to other posts or threads here - located within posts will need to be fixed since the source code here is different from the way it was under vBulletin. External links should be OK though.

Hi there  All of the internal links should have a thread or post ID (the number eg; this on is 477090) the developers should be able to catch those with rewrite rules and redirect the user to the correct link.  If anyone else finding the quote feature is screwed up? I'm getting a huge gap under the users name that i'm quoting.

Yes, when I quoted jhuskey's question, there was a huge gap - it's still there. In the raw HTML, there are too many 'br' commands in the quote container.
On another note, the function to make a thread into a sticky appears to be missing...
Hi there  Can you please post the two thread you'd like to merge?  thanks
In the 'Tell us what you think' section, I noticed Alienator's thread ranting about why 'the mods need to be upgraded', I noticed that someone locked that thread after my reply, so someone started a 'part 2' version, I tried to merge them after I got a nasty PM from Alienator accusing me of being 'spineless' and thinking I was the one who locked the thread.

No probs, I'll find out and let you know. If his email was particularly nasty, I'm happy to ban him. He rubs a lot of members up the wrong way.

I'll forward you the PM content as soon as I get home, it's easier with Firefox than with my iPhone, which only runs a stripped-down version of Safari. Â I was about to drop the axe on him myself but wanted to check with you first in case he decided to complain, that way you could back us up and tell him that if one of us banned him it was because he deserved it.
