  1. Hi all,

New to the form and cycling my name is Dave. I recently bought a Giant 2005 ocr zero second hand. After some hard work and learning I have her running like a charm, clean and degreased.

My problem is i am getting serious pains in my left should joint and numbness in both hands after about a ten minute ride. I need to know what is causing this as its stopping me from cycling.

Some background about my self im 6ft2 and 102.5kg, I started cycling to lose weight. Looking to get myself to where i was 3 years ago 80kg and 10-12% body fat. I have a 32 inch leg and and my frame is a medium.

Im just not sure if it my frame being to small, my handlebar angle or saddle adjustment. The pain in my should only happens when I make a side lateral movement. I do seem to be putting to much weight on my hands when cycling and need some way to overcome this.

    Thanks for all your help
    Dave

We really can't make fitting recommendations without seeing you on the bike. If you are having pain, please take yourself and your bike to reputable fitter and have him/her make adjustments. You should NOT have pain while riding.

  3. yea sorry I understand where your coming from. My problem I have is it was set up like this by a "professional" however a friend of mine and my doctor both reckon my shoulder pain is from my bike as i am placing to much weight on my arms. If you could advise me on ways to attempt to lessen this it would be great as i do not want to spend another 40 euro on fitting again

    Thanks

  4. Two suggestions.

Make sure your seat is level. If it's tilted down you will have more weight on your arms.

Raise your handlebars. If the bars are low, you will have more weight on your arms. You can lower the bars later (slowly) once your body starts to adapt to the position.

    Good luck.

  5. You will also feel shoulder pain the top tube or the stem is too long, but I doubt that this is the problem in this case. At 6 ft 2, you probably should be riding a large rather than a medium frame. I am 6 ft even with a 32 inch inseam and all of my road bikes are large or the equivalent, and I ride with no pain.

Professional fitters can only get you in the ballpark as far as fit goes. No two people are exactly alike, so there are small tweaks and adjustments that need to be made to get the fit perfect for you. Don't hesitate to tweak the original fit to make your rides pain free.

  6. If you paid for a professional fit and are having this much trouble go back and let him know whats wrong. If he doesn't bend over backward to make you comfortable get a refund and or let everyone know the guy doesn't stand behind his work.

Of course if your pro told you he can't make the bike fit properly and now your having issues then get a new bike.
