Shorts

Well I'm rather inclined towards this pair at the moment, what does everyone think?

What I wonder though, is whether that blue pad seen in the second link, in the third picture, is sewn in or whether I just leave it in? Anyone have any knowledge on this and what it is for different brands?

Any help is appreciated.

I haven't tried the PI Quest shorts myself but I've heard good reviews about them. The pad is sewn in at the factory.

Thanks, is that the case with every short? I'm looking into them but at Evan's cycles it's out of stock.

My saddle is gel, what sort of shorts do you recommend?

A new saddle 😉 I have a gel saddle as well, and it hurts so stinking bad after a couple hours, I actually have to get off and rest my underside. I'm getting a new one next week, with much less gel. That stuff does way more harm than good.

I actually quite like it, though I would prefer a non-gel one. I suppose it really differs for each one. Do you wear padded shorts?

Heh no, I've been trying to avoid them, because then I'd have to use jerseys to carry all my stuff, and I don't have that much money right now because of university. I managed to find a set for $30 that looks like it'll work, so I'm going to try that first. I don't have any problems with chafing, but after an hour or so, my sit bones sink into the gel, and that puts a bunch of pressure up front 🙁

I haven't used the Pearl Izumi Quest shorts, but I did recently purchase a pair of Pearl Izumi Ultra Attack shorts. The blue pad shown in the Quest link you provided looks identical to the pad in the Ultra Attack shorts, and it's very comfortable. I'm really pleased with the shorts I bought, they fit perfectly and are very comfortable. I suspect you'll be happy with those P.I. Quest shorts.

All the shorts I've owned over the years have had the pad (chamois) sewn in. I've never seen any where that could be removed.........although that doesn't mean there aren't any. 😄

Well, that's a bummer. One of the reasons I would recommend the Pearl Izumi shorts is that they seem to be sized correctly. I normally wear a men's small in a short (I'm 5'10" 155lbs 29" waist) and the P.I. small shorts fit me perfectly.

But, I have purchased shorts over the years that weren't sized right; they might be too tight around the thighs or too loose around the waist.

So, that's one of things you have to watch out for....sizing can very a lot between brands...that includes jersey's, shoes, etc. too.

Most on-line retail shops will give you your money back on the purchase price if your purchase doesn't fit, but you still lose the shipping costs.

Not all gel bits--seats, chamoios,.....--are the same. Like pretty much everything else, you need to try the bits for yourself.

try teamfastgear.com they have amazing deals and even though thy are a US company they ship worldwide. i bought a pair of bike shorts from them and i love them!
