Today I made my first commute via bicycle to work. It was a very nice ride, I loved it! I mean, really loved it! I start work late on most days, and on the days I don't, I wouldn't want to wake up early enough to make the commute by bicycle (it takes me about an hour and a half to get to work by bicycle... and I'm a teenager.) On the days I would like to ride my bike to work, I would typically get out about 7 or 8 o'clock at night. I was getting ready to head home from my first ride-my-bike to work day, when a co-worker insisted she drive me home because she thought the bicycle paths would be dangerous at night. Is this really something about which I should worry? Ultimately, I accepted her offer because the light I ordered for my bike is coming in a few days, and I was somewhat afraid of potholes, and, of course, she did plant the seed of fear in my head which made me a little less easy.
I don't know if anybody who reads this happens to be from my area, but I work in Libertyville and live in Waukegan, IL. My route takes me down the Des Planes River Trail and the North Shore Bike Path most of the way.
Like I said, I'm a teenager, I am naive about the ways of the world! Please help me out with your worldly wisdom!
