Yes I have, and still do. In fact, just last year I completed a major upgrade to my system - I'm all digital now, no more having to carry tons of CDs around.

Okay. You're officially "my guy" on this forum.

I like Korn (Got the Life and Freak on a Leash are my faves) and they hit HARD, but they can't hold a candle to Cameo as far the real funk goes...word to yo' mutha...😄

Nice, smart move Cyber. Nothing worse then spending hours next morning trying to straighten out and organize. What's your setup like ? Denon and Numark still good ? Pioneer was always around too.

As far as reorganizing is concerned, that wasn't an issue, whenever I took a CD out of the case to play it, I always made sure it got put back in the case in the same spot it came from, I have separate sections in the case for single-artist discs and compilation discs, each section is sorted alphabetically. I still keep the CDs on hand for backup, in case something goes awry with the lappy.

For the setup, nothing too fancy - I use the laptop with a M-Audio Fast Track Pro dual-channel sound card and the PCDJ DEX program, also a Gemini CDX-02 dual CD player as a backup source. My mixer is an Atus AM-400 that I sniped on eBay about 2 weeks after my birthday for a real bargain, an upgrade from the SM505 I was using before that I had to build a tray for in order to put in the case because that one's not rack-mountable - it has all the channels I need, as well as a pitch shifter for the DJ mike so when doing karaoke gigs I can also make announcements that sound like Darth Vader or Alvin and the Chipmunks... 😄

Also in the case is an 8-switch lighting controller for lighting effects used when doing proms and similar gigs, and a Gemini wireless mike that I use exclusively, the only other person that usually gets to use the wireless mike is the best man at a wedding.

In a separate case is a Peavey 701R mixer that I use for karaoke gigs along with an Alesis Micro-Verb 3 reverb unit and a Roland SDE-1000 digital delay unit, and a Peavey DECA-528 power amp that only takes a single space in the rack but puts out up to 500 watts total - 250 to each side if two speaker pairs are used, 210 watts to each side if only a single pair is used - a nice feature the Peavey DECA-series amps used. I bought that amp used through the now-defunct Want-Advertiser magazine back in 1994, still kicking very strongly to this day.

For the karaoke source though, I still use a Pioneer laser disc player with the 12-inch Pioneer laser discs that look like vinyl records, as soon as I get my Federal tax refund though I'm gonna make DVD copies of those so I can digitize them.

Good stuff. Now-a-days it definitely is much better compared to even 5 years ago. The days I remember were 7-8 years ago. I never did any full gigs myself, but couple of my friends used to be resident dj's on Landsdowne st.

Remember Karma and Avalon ? Good ol' days. The mess I was talking about, was when they would spin all night, I sometimes would be in the booth just handing them what they needed, (after working the door) but sometimes without anyone there, they didn't have time to put back neatly. I usually had my practice runs in afterparties where they would be too wasted to spin, so I would just get on. Nothing great, but I learned alot. A simple crossfader was the sh1t. 😄

Now most likely I would be lost. :eek:

Sounds like some good times back in the days. I've never done any club gigs before but I've spun for some bars and restaurants, mostly for karaoke gigs. I mainly do private parties, my biggest specialty is wedding receptions.

I started dabbling in the DJ stuff back in 1989 after buying my first mixer and using vinyl and cassettes, then got my first CD player later that year. I got my big break in 1994 shortly after getting dumped by someone I regret dating, the guy who was hosting karaoke at one of my hangouts asked me to fill in for him when he had to leave early. He had me fill in for him a few more times after that and word got back to the guy who was acting as the agent at the time about how well I was doing, which led to me being asked to do more gigs. I made a ton of money in the mid to late 1990s doing wedding receptions and other private parties, and a few New Years' Eve restaurant/bar gigs.

I started dating her a few months earlier a few days after being declared a karaoke legend after a successful unrehearsed performance of "Born To Be Wild".

Now everyone knows where my user name came from... :p
