Last summer I really got into triathlons and now I am pretty much hooked. I am already signed up for 2 sprints and 1 olympic at the end of summer. I also really loved the biking aspect of it and in the next couple months I am going to upgrade from my old school mid 90's Specialized which is too large (and slow) for me.
So after doing all the research (and not knowing most of the bike jargon), I am more confused than ever.
I do NOT want a tri bike.
So with that being said here is what I am looking for from the bike I want to buy.
1. I don't need to be blazing fast, but I just want to be able to keep up with the crowd which was something I have not been able to do on my current bike
2. I want to be comfortable
3. I want to be able to go on some longer group rides and not just triathlons
My price range is around $1,500 for the bike
So with that being said and visiting 3 LBS', I can't settle on one bike!
I like felt very comfortable on both on a test ride a couple weeks ago in the freezing cold Michigan air. . .
Trek 2.3
Specialized Allez comp
Then I went to another LBS today and the guy really had me thinking about the
Specialized Roubaix and the Specialized Secteur
These bikes have a little bigger tires (25c over 23c) and are listed as "Endurance Bikes"
I am afraid that these are touring bikes and wouldn't allow me to keep up in the shorter triathlon distances. I'm not out to win, I just don't want to get passed as much as I did this past summer!
The salesman at the store also said why not spend a couple hundred more for a carbon frame?
Another guy I know at the gym who is an Ironman triathlete said I should also highly consider a Felt bike. AHHHH!
So with all that being said, does anyone have any advice they could give me on what bikes you think would be the best fit? I feel like I keep spinning my wheels on what to get and I don't even have the wheels yet to spin! LOL!
Please HELP!!!
