Hello,
I'm a bit of a newbie and have developed an okay aerobic base. I would like to do my first century in september 2010.
Currently my long ride is 44 miles. I am increasing 2 miles per weekend. My training during the week has been poor.
I ride a hybird bike and am doing this for fitness and fun.
I would like help with a recommendation on a basic training plan. I have a heart rate monitor and understand zone training by heart rate but am just not into everything enough to figure out my lactic threshold and all that.
I realize for some of you my request may seem crazy. But to me, it's a hobby. I realize there are more effective ways than what i am requesting, but to me it's not about most effective as I don't want to commit the time to detailed testing, logging, planning math, I just want something simple, to go out and ride my bike on a nice day.
I would like to ride 5 days per week.
Can someone recommend a basic training plan for me to ride my first century in September? I would, of course, like to gain some speed and not just endurance, so I welcome tempo and intervals.
Most importantly I want it to be progressive and simple. I don't want to peak, I just want to lose a 10-15 pounds and make sure i can meet the 12mph minimum for the century ride in September. faster than 12 would be nice too, but i'm not buying a road bike any time soon.
I was thinking 2 days a week of tempos, 1 day a week of interval 1 long ride and 1 medium long ride. or something like that,, any advice appreciated.
my long day needs to be on sunday.
Any help appreciated 🙂
