i'm selling my bike, '08 Specialized Tarmac Elite, for the asking price of $1500.00. I paid a total of $2350 for it with the bontrager race x-lites last year. Anywho, I have this one guy texting me constantly asking $1330 as final offer as he doesn't need the computer or pedals. Btw, the guy doesn't speak english too well from the other day when i spoke with him but the cateye astrale 8 and pedals are going with it. so it's nothing big or fancy but it's still a good bike.
I told him it's all or nothing for $1400, no less. and i spoke with the same guy who sold me the bike over a year ago and asked him what a fair asking price would be and he said $1800.00 so that is that. I'm frustrated to say the least because it'd be nice to eat at least one good meal this week as work has completely stopped but i can't justify my hunger as a means to just give this bike away.
I was actually thinking of raising the price another $100 in the next add. ack!
that's not what i was ready to hear. i was thinking a few more days with a $1600 price tag which will include the keo pedals and shimano shoes if they want them ( the cleats from the shoes at least seeing as how shoe size might differ) plus one pair of brand new (worn once) LG touring cycling shorts and two riding jerseys that i rarely ever used.
plus the computer which has cadence. i'm thinking maybe if people want to be specific then it's just the bike @ $1400.
pat, waddya think about that? i was thinking i could let all of that go for $1500 but ask $1600 in a new add. that way if they wanna bs about not needing anything than i'd have the $100 to $200 to play around with. anything?

thanks, i needed to read that. i text the one guy back and said "$1400, it's yours" but i just posted a new add for $1600. hell, the bike has barely even been ridden outside of the initial 200-250 miles per week for the first few months along with 6 centuries and never raced, never wrecked. and all the accessories are included, no price reduction if buyer doesn't want them.
thanks. now i'm thinking the next add is gonna be for $1700. 😄 and today is payday for the majority of folks so it's a good day to sell a bike.
I buy and resell a lot of items, especially when I was racing motorcycles. I have learned that when selling an item such as your bike loosing $100-$150 from what you are asking is worth the time you will just be sitting on it waiting for that buying to come along who just has to have it.
Lets think this through....
your MOST LIKELY not going to get a serious cyclist looking to buy your bike as it is an 08 so they wouldn't want to step into a 2 year old bike that has been used none the less. The target buyer for your bike would be a cyclist who is looking to just get started or step up from their OLD piece of [censored] they got at their local walmart a couple years back and wants to upgrade into something better but doesn't have an outrages budget to get a really really nice bike. That buyer would weigh out the options of buying a used bike in good condition with some descent componants OR buy a brand new bike on sale at a local bike shop with no abuse for the same entry price. I personally can speak from experience when I tell you this as I was that target buyer looking for a nice entry level bike that I could develop my riding with. I had PLENTY of options on Craigslist to chose from but decided I wanted something I could trust, something brand new, something that was mine.
you could keep your price where its at and be patient for that buyer who MAY come along OR sell it for the $1350, get it off your hands and be done with the sale. Not to mention you said your work has stopped leaving you with the thought of "where can I find some money? If you are stuck on keeping your price at $1500 then you need to alwasy think people are going to offer you less, so you should have asked 1650 like you said above which gives you the option to take less and make the buyer think he is getting a better deal. good luck
well put Bianchi and all of that has crossed my mind from the get go but ever heard of the story of the guy who has a mint 56 Chevy Bellaire who went around to all the swap meets with the selling price of half a million posted in the window? He still drives that car.
if it gets worse than i'll let it go for the highest bid but i can tell you as soon as it dries up I'm going riding.
I hope you get that person that comes along and NEEDS your bike...cant live without it. As a seller you always want as much as you can out of it and as a buyer you always want to get it as cheap as possible. I have been on both sides many times. hang in there and see what kind of attention it gets. It's not hurting you by holding onto it for now.

that person came along, ME!!! I got work TODAY so bike is not for sale!!! gawd works in mysterious ways something fierce i tell you what!!! ha! now in a few weeks to a month i can upgrade the wheels and the drive train!! haha! all the way to the icehouse, er, i mean roadhouse. 😎
thanks for the input just the same everyone, i was tearing up just thinking of having to sell my first love. now i'm tearing up because don't have to. BRILLIANT!! 😎
so.......you were were about to sell your bike because you had no work coming in and now you have some work available and your going to splurge and buy new wheels and a drive train? everyone spends their money differently, but what about save some of that money so when you have no work coming in again you dont have to worry about selling your bike again?? 😉
on a positive note, congrats on getting to keep your bike and finding some work!
yup, the last of my money was gone. i put my last three bucks into the tank to make it to the evening interview. as for saving, i will do just that and upgrading the bike is not on the first of priorites but i'm gonna make it happen as soon as possible. maybe the cheaper nuevation wheelset ($300) instead of the mavics ($900) and a used dura ace crankset.
thanks for the insight and i'll be sure and save my money this time, Dad!
I aint trying to be your dad 😄 just thinking its a little bit irresponsible to be buying any kind of upgrades for something that isn't necessary...unless it is?? not my money so it's all up to you brotha
I aint trying to be your dad 😄 just thinking its a little bit irresponsible to be buying any kind of upgrades for something that isn't necessary when you just dropped your last $3 in your car to get to an interview. that's just me. Trust me, I'm probably going to sleep just fine if you end up getting out of work again and are on here posting up you gotta sell the bike cuz you have no money for food and such. :p
well, when you're me and you have had nothing your entire life ( sob story, boo freakin' hoo) and then you make a little bit of money you buy what you can, even if it's just for a little bit that you get to enjoy it. i shouldn't have even bought the bike last year but i did. and after the upgrade, a newer truck as in an f250/350 superduty diesel! mm, maybe before. 😎
and i'm not 'in debt' so to speak, i'm just broke.
and in the a/c biz you make around $8000 to $12,000 a month bring home for 6 to 9 months and live off of it for the winter time. seriously, the money is that good but only for that short amount of time. and i've been an electrician helping my bud out making pennies on the dollar this last year so that's why i'm broke. not to mention the bottom fell completely out for about a month now, no contracts whatsoever. I made $60 the week of Christmas and nothing since.

You're in Houston right? Isn't it the most air conditioned city on earth?
