Hello All,
I am new to the group, so I hope I am not raising a topic that has already been adressed a bunch of times.
I have an old mountain bike that needs new shift levers and cables. I think the chain rings and casette (correct terminology?) still have some life in them. The problem I am running into is that everything I read suggests that index shift levers are not repairable and that they must be matched to the rings & cassette they were sold with, but my bike is so old that I don't think I will be able to find the original shift levers anymore.
I have a 1988 (or maybe 89) Fisher Hoo Koo E Koo with shimano deore parts. It has 7 gears on the rear deraileur and 3 rings in front.
I wonder if more knowledgeable folks could tell me if it would be possible to find the right shift lever somewhere? Is it possible to adapt my old equipment to some other type of shift lever? Perhaps there is another solution?
Thanks!
Seaphish
