I have a 2009 Scott Speedster S30 with a clamp-on 105 FD and a Truvativ Elita 50/34 crankset. I found a good deal on a SRAM Force Carbon 53/39 crankset. Could I install the larger SRAM crankset, as long as I properly adjust the position of the FD and install a longer chain?

Yes, same front der for shimano for compact and full size cranks..it'll work fine.
