Do I understand you correctly? You just bought a road bike and are planning to ride in this event, and this event is called the Hilly 100-----meaning 100 miles over Bloomington's hilly terrain I assume. Quite an ambitious start to road biking I'm thinking.

  3. I'm in very good shape and only 26 and this is supposed to be a fun event!

Well, I'm a flatlander from New Orleans and will be heading to Bloomington next week for a 2 week visit with a friend that is needing help framing an addition to his home. I've ridden the roads in that area quite a bit on my motorcycle and compared to where I live, it would be downright torture for me to cycle up there. The only work I can get on anything resembling a hill is crossing over the many bridges in the N.O. area and I am not too keen on riding on our city streets. Between the potholes and crazy drivers, it is a bad idea. I ride a levee bike path that is right at 43 miles out and back but real flat for the duration.

I hope you've spent some time in the new saddle to get used to it.

  5. I live just a little ways from Bloomington so I have a little of the hills here and I plan on riding my bike to and from Bloomington before the Hilly wich my buddy says that is way worse than the hilly!
