  2. Wow, I just requested this today! I guess I was the 250lb straw that broke the forum's back :-)

I prefer to think of myself as a Mack truck, though! :-)

    Thanks!

  6. On a given week, I'm a couple hamburgers away from qualifying for this thread. Today anyway, I have no business being here so I'll get out now...😄:p

Try me back in a month when race season is officially over...

  7. I will always qualify for this forum! I have never been healthy and below 224 lbs. in my adult life.

    NO WAY .

I'm a clyde. I break a vast number of parts on a regular basis. My road bike is a Kona Jake and has 29" Sun Rhyno Lites and 40c touring tires.

I hate to go uphill as much as the next clyde :p

Really? I usually am around 225 lbs and have little to no issue with excess wear.

I think it must be a matter of riding styles. 😄

    Howdy cathald, Welcome!
    Sore legs? More info please?
How long have you been riding?
How far with how much intensity?
Are you doing other strenuous activity?
    How is your diet?

  15. Thanks for the welcome Wlfdg

I think I have found out the reason behind my sore legs
I was chatting to the guy at my local bike shop and he says my seat is to low
do you think this could be my problem?I am able to put my feet flat on the ground while sitting on my bike and he says I should only be able to put my tip-toe to the ground.
I have only been riding a month or so but have been doing charity cycles on and off for a few years but no training as such

I am doing 12 mile per day at the moment but my speed on the flat is only 10-12 mph
The only other strenuous activitys that I do would be a bit of hill walking and walking along the coast as I am a landscape photographer

My diet is poor to be honest to much snacking and to much coffee

    Any help would be great

    Cathal

  16. Getting your bike fitted properly is certainly step #1 for sure.

Good eating habits are very important. Especially in accomplishing fitness goals. If you wanted a well running automobile you wouldn't put bad gas in it, correct?

In the past 3 + months I have been following the Paleo Diet. I can't say enough about how amazing I feel! I have more energy at 42 than I did at 22. My recovery rates are extraordinary! IMO- it's worth looking into The Paleo Diet | Paleolithic Diet, Paleo Diet, Caveman Diet, Hunter Gatherer Diet, and Ancestral Diet - all are terms that ultimately refer to the science of Paleolithic Nutrition

Pre-Paleo I had a standard athletes diet and generally stayed around 12% body fat.
Since the 3rd. week of Paleo my BF% has dropped to about 8-10%, my training volume has increased substantially, my strength gains have been shocking, my sense of well being is incredible and after having suffered with exercise induced asthma for most of my life it is no longer an issue at all. 😄

  17. Thanks for that I will get a look in my local book shop for that

  18. Hi cathald gald you are riding 12 miles. I know how hard that can be I weigh in at 254Lbs. I lost 5 lbs in july diabetic too so for a year ive been riding hard. I am trying to live afew more years. your sore legs can be from your seat. I like mine so the leg is extennded on each peddle stroke almost all the way when I am sitting on the seat. This wiil improve your power and stamina. I strated out at 4 miles a day on an 80s schwinn world sport road bike even rode it this winter in minnesota. I cant help you with diet as I am on a carb counting diet not sure what real people eat . keep pounden those cranks the pain stays the same😎

You need to be specific on what the pain is and exactly where on your legs it is. chances are pretty good it has nothing to do with your size as anyone and everyone can get leg pain. While total bike fit is important, you can still have the seat at the right height and have leg pain. It could be a medical issue and have nothing to do about bike fit at all. The more detailed information you provide the better picture you draw. Whether you can put your foot on the ground or not isn't really important as that is more about frame size (and that's a whole 'nother issue). The important setting is seat to pedal distance, not seat to ground.

  20. I’ve just purchased my 1st bike, I’m 5’9” and 240. My goal weight it 200 so I’ll always be a Clydesdale.
