Here's an article by an auto writer in which the author has a race between a bike and a car. I think the bike more than held its own.

Thanks for the link.
I went to graduate school at UW-Milwaukee, so I'm very familiar with the bike-accessibility of that city.
I emailed my car-relying, Milwaukee family members in hopes that it'll give them a little push to emancipate themselves from the automobile.
Afterall, they live in a city where it's easy to do it.

Unfortunately, though the website is about Milwaukee, the car vs bike thing was done in Denver.
But every year during bike to work week, they run a car vs bus vs bike from Brookfield to downtown during the morning rush and usually the difference is a few minutes either way.
