1. It looks like my motorcycles are going to sell this weekend so I’ll have some cash to get a nice road bike. The two LBS carry Specialized, Giant, Trek but I want an Orbea.

Currently I use a Giant FCR for road work but its primarily a fitness bike and I seem to have to work harder than my riding buddies. Does it make more fit? Not that I see, just tired.

I’ll have to travel in order to get an Orbea because there isn’t a dealer anywhere near me so I thought I might get some ideas first. I’m 5’10”, 195 lbs and I might be a little longer in the torso then the legs (31” inseam) but not freakishly so.

Some of the threads I have read say if I can afford it carbon would be a better choice than aluminum or full sized better than compact frame. I will try to ride before I buy but any ideas what size frame might get me in the ball park?

    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

    Thanks

Definitely test ride any bike, especially high end bikes to make sure you like the ride, but FWIW I have your same height and inseam and ride a 54cm Orbea Opal. I prefer road bikes on the smaller side equipped with longer stems and I have team mates roughly my same size riding 57cm Orbea frames but then they're running much shorter stems and have less seatpost showing.

But AFAIK in the current Orbea line up for road bikes you'll have a choice between a 54cm and 57cm. As another point of reference I've always ridden 55cm and 56cm road bikes from other brands in traditional geometries and my 54cm Opal fits a lot like my 55cm traditional steel frame.

I love the way my Opal rides, but YMMV so definitely test ride before you buy.

  3. Definitely go to your LBS to test and make sure it's what you want. I just ordered an Orca last weekend and I am waiting for it to arrive as we speak. I had to sell my YZ250F dirtbike, and my Felt F75 in order to finance it so it's a big investment but it's one of the best ones I have made. I rode a ton of different bikes, and component setups before I finally figured out the direction I want to go. The two I looked at the hardest were the Cervelo, and the Orca....Orca won. It's supahsmooth.
