I'm in the search of a frame since a while, but I don't want or can spend thousands on carbon, besides is really not my cup of tea, I only ride a few kilometers on the weekend. I really be happy with and Al frame and a carbon fork.
I saw Felt bikes at the LBS and they say, since it's been a while since I ask for a frame, that they will consult with the dealer if they can take the parts and sell the frame to me, they need the pricing for the frame.
It is a basic Al frame with carbon fork, don't remember the model but generally what varies are the components and not the frame up to certain level then they have the carbon for a higher level. So how good could a Felt frame be? The bike has nice wheels (Felt written on the rims) I liked them, but the guy said that they were not the big deal, that the frame was O.K.
They also have a Trek with a carbon rear triangle, but it's more expensive than what the Felt could be if they can do the switching.
I know that all those frames are made in China, but is there a difference between brands?

I doubt it you would notice a significant difference in the ride of either the two frames you are considering if you were to equip them with exactly the same components & wheels ...
I think that the easiest way to judge the quality of a TIG welded frame is to compare the welds with a known standard -- the coarser the welding, the lower the quality. If you have a chance to look at a MOOTS, then you will know what the 'gold standard' is for TIG welding ... at the other end of the spectrum would be a $100US, big-box store bike.
While the welding quality is probably mostly cosmetic, it is an indication of the time that was spent during fabrication.
So, compare the FELT & TREK frames ... assess the two side-by-side ... and report back what YOU think about the two & whether you subsequently think the difference (if any) is worth it, or not.
BTW. Based on NOS bikes being discounted on eBay by shops who are clearing their old inventory, I reckon you might be able to get a 'bare' FELT frame & fork (plus [hopefully], headset) for $200US, or less! But, you should expect to pay no more than $400US.

thanks for the info, my current frame has nice welds, they seem like they were polished or sanded because they are smooth. I don't know if those are good or they were so bad that they better sand them for looks? It is supposed to be an italian Aluminum frame.
If I can find a Felt or known brand name at EBay for $200 I'll be very happy! -

I went to the shop and the guy told me a customer was bringing a used Specialized frame that may fit me. So I'll be taking a look at it. The only thing I know is that it is black. -
Im a big fan of Felt. I ride a F1, aluminum frame with carbon fork and full dura ace. I was a HUGE fan of the Mavic Helium wheels that came on it, until the rear fell victim to a pothole. Im a big guy (6'2", 220lbs) and i notice the frame flexes a bit, but im sure any Al frame will, so I dont know if thats really a downside. overall i definately recommend it.
