I chose to go with the PCVI.
I didn't care for the bulkiness and the mounting of the Garmin.
I wouldn't use the mapping or other features either.
Mounting it on the stem will surely cause it to be damaged in a crash.
The PCVI is mounted below the top of the bars, so the bars and shifters wil help to protect it.
I read a few complaints about other issues too, but those may have been corrected with software updates. Google it and you'll find your answers.

And you can't change the slope with a Garmin - at not easily from what I understand.

Not being able to change the slope, not being able to delete the measurement of zeros and limited memory seem to be mentioned as well.

Some have said that they lose transmission after 3 hours and then start another file. Anyone know more or whether a firmware fix has been developed?

I don't imagine that the SRM folks are keen to see this all resolved as they have an investment in the new pcvi.

Another question, does the Garmin add a level of "geek overload?" I already spend enough time looking at my PowerTap files.
