I've got an old Dawes Backtrax sat in the garage in need of some tlc and I hate seeing it that way 🙁 .
I've got a Marin Rocky Ridge for the dirty stuff and a Spesh Langster for work but you can never have enough bikes, so I want to inject life into the old Dawes. Having only ever carried out minor mechanical work on new bikes before I'm a little unsure of the parts I can now get hold of to replace.
It all seems in fantastic order for an 18 year mountain bike, but I want to replace the bottom bracket and front chain rings (a few teeth missing). Will I be able to fit new replacements for these or will they not be compatible?

A 1990 MTB frame should be compatible with everything new today with the exception of disc brakes. Plus if the headtube is 1 inch, finding a new front suspension that works well may be a challenge as well BUT for things like cranks, derailleurs, v brakes, etc, plug and play.

Brilliant news. Suspension on the front is a no go anyway as I'm going to turn it into a tourer and spec it up nicely.
Just as a point of information Marzocchi sells an adaptor steering tube for their forks as far as I know which allows them to be used in a 1 inch headtube.
