Is it OK to use 10 speed shifter (105 and Ultegra) with a 9 speed Shimano MTB rear derailleur and 9 speed MTB cassette and 10 speed chain-ring up front?
How about the chain; will a 10 speed chain work or do I need a 9 speed chain

Going on a Blue Ridge Parkway road trip and trying to decide how to set up my gearing. I have a bike with triple (105) and another with compact double (Ultegra). I'm thinking about setting up the triple (105, 10 speed) with a MTB 9 speed RD with 9 speed 33 tooth cog as a low gear. Will it also work with a compact set-up?
