bearing noise

I have checked and where necessary re-greased both wheels, changed BB as knackered anyway, the A headset seems ok too. Only thing i can think of are pedals. I have some Shim PD R540 SL that are a couple of years old, with reasonable wear, but cant see obvious entry point.

Is it worth trying to get in them??? or just buy some more.

Regardless of the tool you choose to use, you have to know that the threading is different on each pedal -- normally:

• the RIGHT side pedal spindle-to-pedal-body has a LEFT HAND THREAD
  
• the LEFT side pedal spindle-to-pedal-body has a "normal" RIGHT HAND THREAD
  

There may be exceptions!

While it is always better to have the tool that is designed for the task ... as long as you DON'T try to turn the spindle in the wrong direction, you can often use a medium size adjustable wrench AND engage two of the spline edges with each face of the jaws (4, total) ...
