Since i saw Performance (who bought out Nashbar, for the six of you in a coma) was getting beaten up
here lately, i thought i'd share my own experience.
In May i bought a ViewPoint 10 watt helmet light w/ NiMH batteries, which i've been very happy with.
I use the helmet lamp as an aux. "i'm heeeeree!!!!" light along with lots of reflectors and a 15
watt handlebar light and some rear facing blinkies for my after dark commuting rides, which is about
2/5's of my commuting. I added it to the mix after being almost ground to a paste by a Denali making
a v.sloppy crossing turn from the right into the wrong lane.
As an aside, once i got used to having this thing, i've found it's really convenient for the
stretch of my commute along the Fox River Trail -- it really lets me see into the curves ahead in a
way my handlebar light can't. It doesn't so much lower my commute time as it lets me keep up snappy
pace all the way through the woods -- LOTSA fun, and one of the reasons I call my cycle commute my
Daily Vacation.
Well.. the run time on my battery pack went from 40+ minutes (my max commute time) to under 10.
I called my local Performance Bike shop, 'splained the problem and they gave me a brand new
battery pack with double the rated capacity of the original, for free. No reciept required, no
bs, no upselling, just a brand new double capacity battery for free six months after i started
using the light.
Right on, Performance.
