  1. I saw a fellow in Bend, Oregon, ride by the window of a restaurant where
my lovely wife and I were enjoying a fine lunch with an excellent pinot
noir. He was riding a fixie or singlespeed and the chain was bright
yellow -- so bright and clean it looked like a yellow plastic chain.
    What might I have seen?

Latest model from KMC. Not longer _just_ nickel plate, gold, Navy Grey,
blue, purple, red, white, pink and blue. The latest is YELLOW, a.k.a
    'team color', under ten bucks.

Well, the color of the chain tickled me.

What is the finish? Can't be paint, can it?

I thought it was an homage to the American capitalist yellow running
dogs. It *is* an Olympic year, after all.

Red and yellow (presumably painted) chains have been spotted in a
couple of BMX shops near here; I'd assume that this was one of such,
and that the rider employs a dry lube to keep it pretty.

But this year, it's Mainland Chinese capitalist running dogs who are
reaping the profits from the Olympics, which must be annoying the
socialists of Taiwan something awful; imagine the cheek of those
mainlanders, depriving the poor Taiwanese of the revenue and prestige
from holding the Olympics, and doing it on *their* soil without
*their* permission; oh, the ignominy! (It's amusing to see the ease
with which a position can be flipped on its bars in a situation like
    this...)
