should I aply to med-school as a minority? I'm exactly 1/2 Puerto Rican on my mother's side. I want to do my best to get in because I know i'll be a great doctor but is this a moral thing to do? I'm not disadvantaged economicly and physicaly I look like a white boy. I have blue eyes and my name is irish!!! But following the letter of the law I am indeed a minority. Throughout my entire accademic history I have filled in the latin or Puerto Rican bubble.
Perhapes the addmissions board will think I'm dishonest or unscrupulus if I even attempt such a thing.
Hi there, The question that begs to be answered : Are you applying to medical school as a minority because you are a marginal candidate and believe that once an admissions committee sees "Minority" you will be granted an interview or admissions based on your status? Do you consider yourself dishonest if you check the "minority" box? If this is not the case, check any box that you want and apply. It doesn't matter what anyone else considers you, only your definition of yourself "honest, dishonest, minority or non-minory" makes a difference. The truth of the matter is that a good candidate for medical school is a good candidate minority or not. No admissions committee is going to care how you define yourself.
