I have seen a Thorn bike, set up as an "Ultimate Commuter": with Schlumpf
Mountain and Rohloff, ( could have been a Schlumf Speed drive not sure )
It can certainly be done, but Rohloff won't warranty it of course.
Depending on exactly what you want to do with it, it may well work OK,
you may break it, but then, if you did, you would certainly break
anything else that you might use. Rohloffs can take abuse that other
bicycle gearing options would wilt under. Have seen nice things said
about those DaVinci(?) hubs, but they are heavier and not as good a gear
range, also not as welled tested ( yet )
