I nearly fell off my chair when I saw Thor attack in yellow on the rain-soaked fogged in descent after the last cat 2 climb. When he dropped everyone and opened up 20 seconds, I really thought he was going to hold out. But then he sat up.
Sure Steegmans has beaten him straight up now twice in a row, but it just seems like Thor was playing with everyone, particularly after his blazing prolog victory.
He is in good shape and seems to have new confidence and extra energy to try crazy stunts like today and when he tried solo at Tour du Haut- Var. He was U23 TT World Champ once too. Maybe he will morph into and all arounder (of sorts).

Unfortunately I forgot to reduce recording quality so the dvd I was recording on ran out of space just as the Spanish (Basque ?) guy and Fletcha caught the poor Frenchman with 200m to go on the last climb. I'll have to apply to become one of greg's primate pets so I can stay at home and supervise the recording.

After they caught him, the 3rd spanish guy who was bridging caught them just over the top with the group only a few seconds back. As everyone was getting grouped together, Garate attacked at the begining of the descent. A few folks managed to follow, and he cooled off when he saw he wasn't alone. Then Thor dropped the hammer and was gone. He dropped everyone like a sack of stones. Watching him from the motorcycle was way cool. No fear.
The last 9km or so was flat. He had about 20 seconds after the descent but with 7km it was maybe 10, so he sat up, ditched his jacket, started eating(!) and waited for the 3 chasers. When they caught him, he jumped on and finished his food, then joined in on the work. They worked well together until about 1km when they started dicking around. Steegmans and Hushovd were able to keep their cool with the peleton rolling up fast, but the other guys spooked and made the first move. Then Steegmans won pretty straight-forward.

Word is that Al Trautwig often picking him to win on American TV has given him a boost greater than you would think b/c Thor misunderstands its significance.

Well I have had to watch streaming Danish output because it's so windy my dish won't stay focussed on RAI Sport. That (Danish) is even less comprehensible than Duffers.

In Norway, they say the Danes speak with a potato in their throats (Norwegian and Danish are almost identical written, but sound rather different). That explains the strange vowels. It has a remarkable range of contrasting vowels sounds. Kind like Alabamian.
