Biking to work

Since you are in SoCal, I'll forgive you for asking this question🙄 . I am supposed to be at work at 6:00AM tomorrow morning. Here in Ohio, we have a blizzard warning until 4:00AM with an expected 10+ inches of snow on the ground. The windchill is going to be below zero. Hell yes I drive once in awhile to get to work!

I was an outside and inside sales person for 10 years. I try to schedule my outside appointments all on one day, then I could ride the other 4 days a week to work.

I'm a general contractor, can't quite haul tools on my bike. I have used it on occasion for my photography business.

I can walk to my work in 5 mins, but I do try to cycle on my early shifts 6 miles in and on my late shifts 10-14 miles in depending on time.

My women thought I was mad but now she has the bug and cycles to her uni every day she can.

We have just bought mountain bike so in the summer 'bombs away'

I would love to bike to the light rail station here in Charlotte, NC. Unfortunately, there are no bike trails to take to get to it, and the roads I'd have to travel on at 5am are treacherous, at best (in the dark.)

Hi,

I started two years ago biking to work once a week. I progressively built-up to the point when in May last year the lease on my truck came to an end and I turned it in to the dealer. From that point on, I biked to work five days a week. I stopped in November when the first snow storm hit the Montreal area, making the roads too slippery. I'm not ready yet for the studded tires, and the bridge I have to cross onto Montreal island closes on each year Nov 15th to bike traffic... 😠 I'll use mass transit until the roads re-open. At that point, biking will become a full-time job, as I have decided to become a guide/bike leader.

Thanks to my employer basically "not telling the truth" about the job and realizing I will never make any money in my position, my riding to work is now almost mandatory because I cannot afford gas...

Oh the joys of being fresh out of college...

After being a mobile service tech for 11 years, I have a job where I can ride to work. I ride 9 miles to and 12 miles home (due to where I can safely cross a river and the freeway). Starting in January We have below freezing temperatures most mornings and lots of ice where I ride so I've taken the car lately. I will be biking pretty much every day in a couple of weeks.

I would like to. 😄 Currently.. my work is I think about 10 miles up PCH from my place.. I could probably do it after I've been cycling for a while. As it stands right now, Im new to it, so I dont have the stamina to make it. :o

I bike to work most days (though I do work part time)- I have a rest week every 4th and I tend to be good and take the bus on those weeks. The place I work has a parking problem and makes it worth your while to not drive. If you drive they charge you for parking, if you don't drive they pay you the same amount. There's also card controlled covered bike parking and great locker rooms with showers, lockers and towel service. They are right now hiring someone full time just to encourage bike commuting, so we should see even more incentives coming our way.

Believe it or not, alot of people actually bike to work around here. I can jump on the metro or bike.

I think that reply may have meant it like, we always think the weather is this good everywhere outside of here.. 😎 hehe. Only thing stopping us now and then is rain.. whereas other areas deal with snow and such. 🙂

Paid to ride to work. WOW what a great idea.

I have no metro in this area. In fact, there is no public transportation in between Cincinnati and Dayton. Fortunately I only live three miles from work so biking, when the weather is cooperating, is definitely in my future. The only down sides to this is that the road that I live on is extremely busy in the morning and there is a major highway with no cross walks and very fast traffic lights that I would have to cross.

They are really great to those of us with alternative commutes - I forgot to mention even though I'm part time, they still handed me a super duper, get you anywhere in the 3 surrounding counties, yearly bus pass for free too!

I spent a week in Bellingham in January of 2007. It was beautiful and the weather was great until it snowed. Sort of shut everthing down since they had no snow removal equipment. From what I was told, is snows very infrequently in that part of Washington State. They did have a great inexpensive mass transit system. I wish we had the same around here.
