the meet. Alternatively you may be able to find an e-mail link to ask them about the format.Basically there are three types of events at the meet. Skins, mystery medley, and broken 400 m.
This year the Qantas skins changed format slightly, but the concept is that all swimmers race over
50 m of the chosen stroke and the slowest (or slowest 2 in the first round this year) are
eliminated. On the two minute mark the process is repeated with the remaining swimmers, again
deleting the slowest competitor. The process is repeated iteratively until 4, then 3, and then 2 are
left. The winner is decided in the final head to head sprint between the last two.In the mystery medley each swimmer draws an order in which to swim the strokes. The correct order is
not available, nor is any beginning with backstroke. For example, one swimmer may randomly select
the order Butterfly Breaststroke Backstroke Freestyle, while another may choose Freestyle Backstroke
Butterfly Breaststroke. The broken 400 m as swum this year consisted of 200 m, followed by 100 m, and then two 50 m sprints
each separated by a set time, possibly 2 minutes. Points were allocated for each segment on the
basis 8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 with the highest point scorer over the four legs winning the event. There is nothing to stop anyone playing around with these formats or inventing new ones to suit
their needds. Swimming is supposed to be fun. -
