  1. I've developed nasty pains in my right shoulder. The pain is in the joint -- not in the muscle and
frequently strikes me in the middle of the night.

I strongly suspect that swimming daily with pull buoys and paddles has produced this problem. I've
tried to fix it by avoiding the pool and by just working with the kickboard, but it's still
    killing me.

I'm now worried that this kind of condition will require some nasty surgery. I've never had an
injury like this and would appreciate any advice the mob might have for me.

    Thanks.

Lose the paddles. They put a lot of stress on the shoulders.

That sounds like a nerve problem to me. The standard shoulder injuries hurt when you try to use the
shoulder during swimming, not in the middle of the night. Swimming might be the cause, but I'm
guessing it's a spinal problem in your neck.
