My dad has a old semi sort of road bike with the really small/thin wheels. Now im not a small lad and so when i get on it and start cycling and look at the tyre and it looks like its slightly flat where its meeting the road.
Is this normal and should i be riding it if thats happening? I do pump the tyre right up before I use it.

Sounds like the pressure is too low. Find the maximum pressure rating on the sidewall, and pump up to or somewhere below that rating dependent upon your weight, road conditions, etc.
Ive never really gone by any specific pressure, just was told by my dad to pump it right up so its near enough rock hard. Ive just done it now and the tire gos slightly flat when i sit on it (Mainly because of my weight), but only slightly. Is it ok to actually cycle on this.

As long as you're OK with it, what the hell. You probably have at least a 40 psi range where the only major thing affected is efficiency.
Just remember, if the pressure is too low you could pinch the tube between the ground and rim causing a flat, too high and you could blow the tire off the rim.
Adam, what is the size of the tyre, it should be printed on the side of it and how much do you weigh?
