    Only bow-legged riders need apply.

It combines the worst elements of an ordinary and a tricycle, and adds a
    weird spoking pattern. Delightful!

Does spocalc handle this circumstance? The spoke tension seems like it
    would be an interesting issue.

    Dear Ryan,

If anyone ever built such a thing, the enormous dishing would probably
cause some spokes to go loose as soon as a rider sat on it.

carl, what was the cost for a patent application in 1881?

    Dear Gene,

Plenty, and that's just a rough estimate.

In 1861, the US patent application fee increased from $30 to $35,
    which was serious money.

That $35 in 1881 might be worth around $700 in 2007:

Getting a patent-lawyer to draft the application with witnesses,
searching for prior art, providing drawings, and so on would cost at
least as much as the fee.

Nowadays, the US patent application fee schedule has been simplified
and streamlined in order to better serve the public through a process
    described by C. Northcote Parkinson:

    Cheers,

    Carl Fogel

The interesting thing is that we (in Europe) don't get any support for
How-To and no SME discount. May be its better to have defensive
pubsihing for some trivial things. There are so many obscure patents
that I believe its more a thread to have one than an asset....

    But I tried also ;-)
