  1. Just come across this website - www.patienttalk.com and think you should give it a whirl. Really
like the Buddy thing. I've been diagnosed with acute diabetes and my doctor wasn't very good at
explaining things. I found a buddy who was really good and helped me out loads with needles,
    checking blood sugar, etc.

Great website. Can't recommend it more.

I'm surprised nobody has said this, yet, so I will. I am also not sure what acute diabetes is, but I
know what acute diabetic is. About 5'2", eyes of blue, etc. etc.

  6. Beav,
I don't know what acute diabetes is, but I now know the website wants a "one
off" payment of 10 pounds! I think I prefer yapping with the folks here for
    free.

You've got Usenet. He's an advertiser, sending unsolicited advertisements to this newsgroup, and
    there are superior free resources.

Time to contact this guy's account, folks?

    Leia

I have surfed quite a few forums of this type as well as the Usenet newsgroups. The diabetic
newsgroups are considerably superior to every forum I have visited.

    The three newsgroups are:

    alt.support.diabetes.uk alt.support.diabetes misc.health.diabetes

If you are on insulin but don't quite understand what's going on, you are a good candidate for the
NO-CHARGE discussions on the Usenet groups. We have been "there and done that" There's more
distilled know-how about insulin management in any single Usenet newsgroup than all of the forums I
    have ever seen.

BTW, this is a tragedy! Too many diabetics are stuck with old fashioned therapies and old-fashioned
targets, don't know it, and are headed for a premature death accompanied by a lot of needless
    suffering.

Reading the diabetes newsgroups every night has resulted in substantial improvements in my health,
quality of life, and, I'm certain, my life expectancy.

This is a deadly disease if mis-managed. Do yourself a favor and hang around the three newsgroups
for a couple of weeks to see what the rest of us are doing.

Hi Leia I reckon if I'd just been told that it would seem pretty acute to me too. Here we tend to
call it T1. I'm T2 so I won't give you any advice for it. In case nobody else said it, welcome to
our rambunctious, noisy, argumentative, very informed and bloody terrific support group. If the web-
site helps you - great, use it. Others here may also profit from it. But many here have developed a
healthy skepticism over the years concerning sites that charge for services up front. If you check
out the web-site for this ng you will also find links to a chat room there or go direct to diabetic-diabetic-
    talk.org/.

Cheers Alan, T2, Oz Everything in Moderation - Except Laughter.

  12. Hi Leia, Welcome to the group. (I say rather sheepishly, after my snide remark...I apologize.) When
I saw the word "acute," rather than "Type 1 or 2," my first reaction was that you may not be
diabetic....and only promoting a web site. Once again, I apologize for my rudeness.

I've been T1 for 20 years. I was diagnosed when I was 14. Yes, it is difficult to deal with,
especially in the beginning. There is so much to learn about diabetes in general. Then you have to
figure out what works for you. Then, on top of that, you have to learn what works for you under
various circumstances. Then, circumstances change, and you have to tinker with what you have
learned! Plus, in the beginning, you have to learn to deal with high sugars, low sugars, testing,
shooting up at home and in public, and how to come to terms that you have a disease even though you
    may not feel bad!

I hope that you have found an endocrinologist to work with. An endo will be your best point of
information and will work with you to help you acheive your best control.

If you are not comfortable discussing things in the public arena, I will be more than happy to give
you my email address and/or phone number.

The best of luck to you. Steph
