    As for web sites for downloading routes to your GPS unit this one
    comes to mind:

    http://www.gpsies.com

    Another web site for route sharing that has done a good job with a
    simple interface is http://www.routiki.com and it has a nice upload
    feature for garmin tcx courses. Routiki has not yet implemented a
    download feature but it is in the making. Routiki also has an OSM
    layer which is nice for people in areas for which OSM is better than
    Google. Routiki also has a nice applicaation you can install from
    here:
